A couple of days ago, I was scratching my head and wondering why people were addressing me as male, and thinking "why is male the default gender?  Well, I never!"

The Chancellor of my university has just announced his retirement.  I've talked about this a bit under the "academia" tag.  We're just coming off a vote of the faculty union to authorize a strike 95-5; a hunger strike by some students; and an expose of spending by the Chancellor's office.  To be strictly fair, the "catered meals costing $800,000!!
